A leader in bespoke parking solutions, Indigo has today announced that it has won a new prestigious five year contract for Slough Borough Council with a commitment to employee development, sustainability and technical innovation including an apprentice scheme and pledge to use electric vehicles.

An existing client since 2010, the winning bid demonstrates Indigo’s long-term commitment to client contracts and communities, creating a consumer-friendly and safe environment and delivering well-connected council solutions that drive efficiency, security and performance all while reducing the operation’s environmental impact on the Borough.

The contract will see a significant investment from the company with a particular focus on sustainable technical solutions that improve performance with low environmental impact. In order to exceed the Council’s sustainability goals, Indigo has boldly pledged to purchase only electric vehicles and bikes for this contract and replace the current fleet of vans with an electric replacement to reduce CO2 emissions in the Borough and, more importantly, better the community’s quality of life.

Other technical innovations include smartphone devices, as a lightweight alternative to traditional handheld computers and body worn cameras to further ensure operational safety. Additionally, the site’s Contract Manager and team will be provided with a full suite of business intelligence tools to assist in effective and optimised contract management.

Last, to revolutionise the parking experience at Slough, Indigo will upgrade the entire pay and display machine portfolio across the contract, and utilise a new Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) spotter vehicle to create significant efficiencies to the Council, increase safety across the borough and use real-time reporting to strengthen site security.

With its current and future workforce a top priority, Indigo has created a Leadership and Management framework at Slough and other Indigo UK contracts to develop employees effectively, in addition to an existing Manager in Training Programme. Indigo will also ensure that all relevant staff receive updated training if there is any legislative policy or best practice changes related to parking enforcement, to ensure compliance and a seamless customer experience. To provide further career opportunity to the local Slough community, Indigo will also start an apprenticeship scheme and work with Trailblazer groups to develop standards and assessments – providing a clear path for career progression and self-development.

Kam Hothi, Team Leader – Parking Slough Borough Council, said “Indigo have been a true partner and we are delighted this partnership will continue, Slough is going through a huge regeneration programme and network management is a fundamental part of this.  This new contract has a huge number of projects that Slough would like to deliver and I am confident that Indigo will embrace this as they have done in previous years.

Phillip Herring, Managing Director Indigo UK, said “At Indigo we are committed to long-term relationships with our clients, and invest in not only our contracts but in the communities themselves. We’re excited to be entering into a new contract at Slough Borough Council – and we are proud of the work carried out over the past eight years. We look forward to further building career opportunity for Slough residents, investing in technical innovations that enhance customer experience and providing sustainable solutions that improve quality of life.”
